Sam Haynes

Sam Haynes is a mid-career artist based in London, working in sculpture, site specific installation and photography. With an Art in Architecture MA from the University of East London and an interdisciplinary arts background, her geometric, abstract work maintains a dramatic quality, expressed through an elegantly balanced aesthetic.

She began her professional practice as a public artist in the 90's, designing permanent and temporary installations across the UK. Drawing upon this broad experience, she launched her new series of assemblage photo artworks at the beginning of 2021, with exhibitions at Unit 1 Gallery and Flux in London and photography shows in Rome and Barcelona with LoosenArt and PH21 Gallery. Her first London solo show in 2023 combined photography with abstract, site responsive sculpture. Artwork has been featured in 'Art Seen', ‘Art Reveal’, ’Artist Talk’ and 'Collect Art’ magazines, with an artist interview in 2021 for the Ministry of Arts Podcast.

Interested in physicality and materiality of forms, incorporating found objects and materials, Haynes effectively moves between 2 and 3D formats, using photography within the process of design as well as the final presentation of work.

Haynes has worked in arts facilitation for many years which continues to influence her artistic practice, with a focus on accessibility, engaging marginalised communities, working in partnership with charities and public art commissioners.
