More Works by Juliana Borinski
Juliana Borinski
Juliana Borinski is a German-Brazilian artist based in Paris, France. Her work has been exhibited internationally in contemporary art centers and museums since 2006. Working with still images (photography) and moving images (film, installation, video). Her works question the media through an analysis of their primary resources: chemistry, material, and devices.

When working with photography or cinema, Juliana Borinski rarely uses a camera. She creates images, generally abstract, directly on photosensitive paper or films, exploring the aesthetic and technical capabilities of these materials. What is usually just a simple image support becomes the very material of her work. She seeks error, lack, chance.

Juliana Borinski deliberately positions herself on the margins of the systems she exploits – visual media – by avoiding the image in its conventional sense as well as new technologies, preferring to work with "almost nothing." This unconventional approach is also reflected in the fact that each work is unique, at a time when copying an element requires only a click. Although her tools of work are photography and cinema, the heroes of technical reproducibility, as analyzed by the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, Juliana Borinski deviates from this reproducibility to favor uniqueness.
