A story that is both contemporary and very ancient… Anchored and elongated, timeless, the solid wood sculptures of Marc Laffolay appear as a dialogue between matter and time.

Imaginary writings, elongated verticals, both soft and raw, graphic, they attempt to address what we carry within us that is most authentic, most original. Their charred, textured surfaces bear the traces of the time that shapes us, endowing these pieces with a raw sensuality that invites touch. Timeless, they reveal, beyond mere history, the soul of the material. Often perforated, these sculptures allow light to pass through.

According to the ambient lighting, they redraw themselves on the walls in a play of shadows and lights. Between lyrical abstraction and raw materiality, Marc Laffolay's work is part of an approach where the past and present overlap, as if derived from an imaginary archaeology.
