      Mark Harris

Born in 1971, London-based Mark Harris works with various institutional and discarded archives. Drawing from themes of materiality, ephemerality, and the printing process, Mark produces geometric paintings, collages, drawings and prints through a series of translation, reproduction, and dissemination.

      Mark Harris’s Style and Practice

Mark explores the shared commonalities of language and methodology between the artist and the architect’s use of collage. Unrealised architectural schemes, utopian landscapes, and interconnecting structures, networks and systems found in urban environments appear throughout his ongoing works. Mark uses multi-layered grids and apertures to reflect the myriad of frameworks that bracket our every viewpoint.

      Exhibitions and Residencies

Mark has exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions and activities include Tintype Gallery, London, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, and The Whitechapel Gallery. Mark led a public lecture at The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, on the exhibition Proof: Francisco Goya, Sergei Eisenstein, Robert Longo. He was also an Artist in Residence at the London Library from 2019 to 2021. Along with fellow artist Bob Matthews, Mark delved into this world-class literary collection through a purely visual lens.
