Laurence Perratzi is a French figurative sculptor who explores the expression of the body. Her work is a reflection on movement, strongly influenced by her past as a gymnast, where poise and balance are paramount.
For twenty-five years, she has shaped sensitive and powerful sculptures, mainly in bronze, in limited editions of eight. Her figures defy gravity, in subtle poses or sometimes in snapshots of the body in action.
Perratzi's background in gymnastics runs through her sculpture. Gradually, the balance and fluidity of her figures become part of a story: they are staged in situations that intrigue, make us smile or sometimes leave us questioning.
To bring out the interaction between bodies and the world around them, Perratzi uses circles, frames, nylon threads and plant elements representing rain, clouds and shrubs.
Her freedom of approach extends to the exploration of unexpected materials, such as paper, fabric, jesmonite and polyurethane foam. She sets them in conversation with the nobility of bronze, creating new balances that are alive and uninhibited.
After a career in finance between Hong Kong, San Francisco, London and Paris, Perratzi followed her true vocation. She discovered sculpture in 2000 and committed to it fully from 2005, when she settled in London. She lived there for around fifteen years before moving to Paris, where she now works at Les Frigos.
In an often anxiety-inducing context, her work invites us to step back, put things into perspective and turn our attention to the quiet beauty of simple things. Laurence Perratzi exhibits at numerous contemporary art fairs and in galleries around the world.
