Raj Kaur often works with dancers to create her figurative works that are full of fluid movement. Music is always played during sessions, and there's a process of discovery between artist and model. The vibrancy of dance and music shine through in her work. Brush strokes are deliberate and visible, and colours are earthy with dashes of hot vibrant paint inspired by her Indian heritage.
Kaur works on paper, and also creates limited edition giclee prints. She strives to capture the essence, energy and spirit of the human experience through expressive mark making. Her work is surprising, tender and often emotional.
Kaur is a born and raised Londoner, but now lives and works in Germany. Her work has been shown widely in the UK and Budapest. She was commissioned to create works for the St. Martins Lane Hotel during the London 2012 Olympics, and has created a bespoke pair of TOMS shoes to be auctioned for charity.
