Sarah’s collection, My Still Life is a series of hyperreal drawings of modern foodstuffs.

Born in 1978, British artist Sarah Evans is known for her modern architectural drawings. Most of the artist’s work focuses on reimagining post-war architecture – injecting character into modern buildings through vivid contemporary prints.

Evans’ 2017 collection, My Still Life, marks a departure from the artist’s signature architectural style, instead creating a series of hyperreal drawings of modern foodstuffs with a playful edge. Explore and purchase Sarah Evan’s art on Rise Art.

Sarah Evans’ Art Education and Career

Evans trained as an architect and worked in the industry for 15 years. The artist set up her design studio Oscar Francis in London in 2013, specialising in graphic architectural prints. Evans’ fine art prints have been exhibited across the UK, most notably in the Saatchi gallery and Jealous gallery London in 2018, as well as Arts Depot London in 2019.

Through Oscar Francis, Evans' architectural art has appeared in collaborations with everyone from Tate Modern and London Art Wallpaper to Elle Decoration and Grand Designs Magazine. She has also been commissioned by Standard Hotels and Wallpaper Magazine. Oscar Francis reimagines some of the most famous modern buildings in Europe, from The Barbican in London to The Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Sarah Evans’ contemporary style

Evans takes iconic examples of modernist architecture and re-imagines them. The artist uses architecture not traditionally considered beautiful, often focused on Brutalist forms, and transforms them with bold prints. Sarah Evans’ urban landscape art often resituates these buildings in the contexts of famous films, such as Get Carter 1971 (2022), in which an iconic scene becomes secondary to the looming building of Trinity Square, Gateshead and vivid scarlet background.

Likewise, Evan’s My Still Life series foregrounds distinctly British food, such as Beans on Toast (2020). The artist’s architectural talent is highlighted in the photographic detail of the drawing, which lends the everyday food a new perspective.
