Lei Sylviye
Macao-born artist Lei Sylviye (born 1986) creates mystifying abstract paintings. Lei’s ultra-modern visual studies comment on the problematic effects of virtual reality in the context of contemporary society and culture.
Lei Sylviye’s Early Career and Practice
Lei graduated with an MA from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in China and has since received consistent praise worldwide. Lei’s minimalistic oil paintings are like a window to the virtual realm. Sometimes geometric in style, always icy in atmosphere and colour, Lei’s glowing canvases have an unnatural digital brightness about them. Logarithmic lines, repetitive shapes and echoing contours evoke the monotony of living an increasingly digital life.
Exhibitions and Press
Lei has exhibited extensively across the globe, with solo and group showcases popping up in Hong Kong, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and London. Lei was a Rise Art Prize finalist in 2018.
