Marita Tobner

Marita Tobner is a German abstract expressionist known for her mixed media artworks. Overarching themes in Marita's work are the reality of womanhood, the love of life, and the manifold aspects of being. Her pieces are not politically-charged, though; they provide hints rather than direct messages about collected experiences and personal stories.

Marita explores our fragmented and inconsistent world views by assembling her images from disparate fragments of material, mass media, and other stylistic devices. This corresponds to our sensory perception of reality, opening up tensions between our inner and outer experiences. A dramatic colour scheme and layers of dynamic graphics combine to reveal and cover details in her paintings and collages. Marita creates her works serially with mixed media, using anything and everything from acrylic, oil, wood or linocut, to collage, painting, and drawing.
