Description
In Threads of the Land, Emma Lawrenson demonstrates an attentiveness to the slow life of materials and to the enduring, almost bodily pull of the West Yorkshire wilderness.
Lawrenson layers seasonal hues, hand-drawn stencils, frayed edges, salvaged book covers and organic Nepalese papers in an accumulation of surfaces marked by time and touch. Varying in scale, texture and composition, the works appear almost embroidered in their intricate detail, foregrounding process and the stories materials can hold.
