Leonardo Vargas

The work of Leonardo Vargas focuses on painting as a process and a form of representation that deals with specific codes. The artist actively delves into the mechanisms of production of the pictorial image, questioning the practice and exploring different forms of (re)presentation. He often works with found images from various sources such as the canon of art history, photographic archives, fashion magazines, or advertising.

Through his work, Vargas launches a visual inquiry into the nature of the images and what they represent. The resultant paintings present an array of subjects, such as the passing of time or different aspects of our humanity. Beyond the subject, however, his main goal is to establish a dynamic and meaningful relationship with the viewer through the image.

His work has been presented in different exhibitions and International Contemporary Art Fairs.
