Styling with art: Warm Metallics

This week we're playing with warm metallics. The piece we've chosen as a starting point is 'connection' by Andrew Crane. 'Connection' isn't actually made from metal but it's gold in hue and its cement semblance associates itself with the focus on materiality common of other metallic interiors pieces. Interiors-wise we looked for bronzes, irons and golds to compliment its industrial composition. Next weeks theme is bright colours

Connection

Andrew Crane discovered cement by accident. To his amazement, once sealed, it took oil paint really nicely and had the added charm of all the surface imperfections. Since then, he's explored other unconventional materials, like black varnish and more recently, brown paper tape. Andrew's piece 'As Above' was recently featured in Living etc. Interiors-wise we looked for bronzes, irons and golds to compliment its industrial composition. We can't get enough of this peg rack (9), forged and riveted by John Churchill Blacksmiths in Devon, or, in quite a different way the decadence of this vessel by Michael Aram (3). Tune in next week and we'll be pairing a brightly coloured art work with brightly coloured accessories.
