      Aviv Benn

Born in 1988 in Tel Aviv, Aviv Benn is a London-based expressionistic painter. Her paintings are a visual universe starring symbolic archetypes and fantastical forms that pop up, reappear, and combine to formulate the dreamlike world they inhabit.

Aviv Benn’s Early Career and Style

Aviv has an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2018) and a BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem (2013). By repeating the same imagery over numerous canvases, she informs a narrative that stretches far beyond the boundaries of a singular painting. Weaving new relationships together, she constructs a vivid, interconnecting myth throughout her works.

      Awards and Residencies

Aviv has exhibited her expressionistic works in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe. She has participated in artist residencies, including Affect in Berlin (2014), PILOTENKUECHE International Artist Residency, Spinnerei, Leipzig (2015), and the Vermont Studio Centre Artist Residency (2019). Aviv received the Rabinovich Foundation Grant in 2015 and 2019 and the Graduate Dean Professional Development Award from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017 and 2018.
