Corinne Rieniets

Corinne E. Rieniets (b. 1991) is an American artist based in Chicago. Corinne’s work is an ongoing experiment in taking up space. Her paintings often feature imagined spaces--rooms, hallways, tunnels. The creation of space is a way to orient herself as she explores the cycle of feelings that happen in the throngs of change. Sometimes, these spaces collapse into flat, painted spaces teeming with a frenzy of marks, sketches, and symbols. Rather than peering into a space, these paintings suggest peering into someone’s sketchbook or the doodled margins of a notebook. She is interested in the physical intimacy of painting as a way to explore feelings of desire.

Corinne Rieniets’ Career

Corinne came to the world of art through a slightly unconventional path. As a teenager, she taught herself painting after reading a book about a character who lived by the sea and painted with oils. However, she decided to study political science and pursued a career in this for several years, before then returning to the world of painting in 2018. Corinne studied painting and drawing at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

Exhibitions and Shows

While she may be at the beginnings of her career, Corinne has already built up an impressive repertoire of drawings and paintings. These works have been exhibited in group shows in the United States, including one at the Rogers Park Art Gallery in Chicago.
