Constanza Villarreal

Born in 1978, Argentinian artist Constanza Villarreal now lives and works in Rome, where she creates contemporary drawings and paintings. Constanza makes use of intriguing and novel materials in her work, taking everything from old linens to rusted objects from the street and using them as her canvas. She also works with a range of media, including ink and water media, producing expressionistic artworks that each tell a unique story. This sense of narrative unites her body of work, highlighting the poetry of everyday life and bringing new life to well-used objects.

Constanza Villarreal’s Artistic Career

Constanza began her creative journey by studying architecture in her native Argentina, before moving to Italy where she studied drawing, painting and ceramics through the atelier system. While she works largely with textiles, she has never received any formal training in this, and approaches this from the perspective of drawing.

Exhibitions and Collections

You’ll find Constanza’s work in collections across Italy and Argentina, including the Basilica de San Crisogono in Rome and the Centro Cultural Provincial in Santa Fe, Argentina. Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions, and notably she has had two solo exhibitions as part of Rome Art Week.
