Queer Dispositions

Online Exhibition Hosted by Amos Eno Gallery on Artsy.net
group show

Description

As queer people continue to face discrimination in their personal lives, employment, housing, & health care, as well as in the public sphere, their lives & experiences – joys & struggles – serve as a springboard for artistic exploration. Curated by James Horner, this exhibition aims to reveal the lives of LGBTQI+ folks today through their visual stories.

'George & Ronnie' from my series ‘There is never more than a fag paper between them’ features in this group show & is available to purchase unframed. The series was born from an unexpected moment of inspiration: an overheard remark about a gay couple, describing them as “never having more than a fag paper between them”. Fuelled by the play on words (in the UK ‘fag’ is a colloquial term for a cigarette & a homophobic slur), I began to draw gay male couples on the unique & challenging surface of fag papers. Over time, this choice has evolved from artistic experimentation into a bold reclamation of a term meant to wound & demean.
