Michelle is one of ten artists who have been selected to create new work for Collect Open, part of Collect Art Fair at Somerset House in London.

“Presented by Crafts Council, Collect is the leading international art fair for
contemporary craft and design.”

Celebrating What Remains – (What you Stole from Me), is new work by Michelle House about her mother and Alzheimer’s: a ball of wool, a lifetime’s knitting, a love of textiles passed down, a memory stolen.

Her experience in hand-printing textiles and intuitive use of colour combine with stitch, in pieces remembering items made by her mother as acts of love for family and home.

Using linens, silk and wool, in colours inspired by knitting needles and homemade clothes, these works include photographs documenting her mother’s sewing cabinet and fabric from her hand-made curtains – later becoming table coverings and upholstery, now used again for Collect Open.
