Sarah Thomas has many influences, some of which become ‘obsessions’ that reoccur throughout her work. This current collection of mixed media collages has taken influence from her latest obsessions with swaggering birds of paradise as well as exaggerated and opulent 18th Century wigs and costume fabrics. She uses images and materials, which have been found, retrieved and reconsidered to illustrate her fascination with the creation of objects and costumes made to transform its wearer, or the striking and colourful plumage shown off during elaborate mating dances. Both used to decorate and inflate the status of the wearer. This exhibition is part of Art Week Exeter 2017.
