Located 20 minutes from London's Waterloo Station, The Surrey Town of Woking is on the capitals doorstep. And since the opening of The Light Box Museum in 2007, the downtown area near the train station has become a vibrant destination in itself. The Rise Art team recently visited The Lightbox for their latest exhibition: The Ingram Collection "Dreams and Nightmares".
The Lightbox Museum in Downtown Woking
Designed by Marks Barfield Architects (the team behind The London Eye), the museum is a sleek modern building, which features a continually rotating selection of Contemporary British Art.
The current exhibition, "Dreams & Nightmares" is a wonderful collection of works spanning decades of British Artists from the beginning 20th century to present day. Focused around artists visions of what the future could become, these surreal, fearful and often precise works are interesting to look at as an ensemble.
The Ingram Collection: Dreams & Nightmares at the Lightbox
The museum has a great cafe, with outdoor seating as well as a regular calendar of talks and guest lectures.
Within the town center, there is a multitude of shopping options, and walks. Our team especially enjoyed a stroll along the historic canal, and an ice cream in the pedestrian only paved streets in the city center.

Our Take: Worth the effort to make a day trip, Woking is a welcome change from the crowded streets of London. Avoid Mondays - The key attraction of the visit - The Lightbox is closed...
