tHE UK'S ONE AND ONLY LATEX ARTIST
UK ARTIST MICHELLE MILDENHALL CAPTIVATES WITH HER DISTINCTIVE STYLE - CREATING PROVOCATIVE ART THAT COMBINES STYLISED IMAGERY WITH HER PASSION FOR LATEX.
Using layered sheets of latex as her medium, Michelle Mildenhall creates bold portraits of iconic women archetypes – with just a bit of a subversive twist.
These compelling and provocative works playfully explore taboo themes of sexuality, fetishism, and subversion. Michelle’s choice of latex as her medium draws references to such topics, whilst also channeling the historical tradition of portraiture.
Citing Aubrey Beardsley and Man Ray as fundamental influences in her work, the ironic and subversive lineage of portraiture with-a-twist is clearly evident. In discussing Beardsley’s work, Michelle describes his compositions as “often daringly abstract and very striking – and his use of erotic and macabre imagery is sublime to this day.”
