Patrick Caulfield at Tate Britain

New Prints for sale to co-incide with Patrick Caulfield's fantastic new retrospective opening at the Tate Britain June 5th

By Rise Art | 04 Jun 2013

Opening this week at the Tate Britain is a survey exhibition of the celebrated British painter, Patrick Caulfield. Known for his iconic and vibrant paintings of modern life that reinvigorated traditional artistic genres such as the still life.  This exhibition celebrates the artist’s mastery of colour, graphic elegance and legacy.

Patrick Caulfield began his studies in 1956 at Chelsea School of Art, London, continuing at the Royal College of Art, one year below the students identified as originators of Pop art.  This exhbition traces the devolpment of his particular style, characterised by flat images of objects paired with angular geometric devices or isolated against unmodulated areas of colour. He adopted the anonymous technique of the sign painter, dispensing with visible brushwork and distracting detail and simplifying the representation of objects to a basic black outline in order to present ordinary images as emblems of a mysterious reality. The Patrick Caulfield exhibition runs June 5th - September 1st, 2013.

Here at Rise Art we've been lucky enough to source a handfull of Patrick Caulfield prints for sale, two of which can be seen below:
