These paintings are from a series she made painted on top of images from a BBC Good Food pasta recipe book. In making them, she was figuring out the place of imagery in her work, having previously considered herself to be more of an abstract painter. She liked how, when cut out of the page, the plates & food became quite painterly & harder to define, and often quite beautiful abstract objects. She also enjoyed the process of painting over photos, simultaneously hiding and revealing an image. She is also interested in the aspirational lifestyle element of the original photography, as she considers food photography to have a lot to do with class wrapped up in it.
