For my first solo exhibition, I will be showcasing a new body of work that marks a shift in my practice - moving away from drawings in pencil on white translucent fag (cigarette) papers to working exclusively with black and white coloured pencils on brown, opaque liquorice papers.
This technical pivot, from capturing shadows to drawing the light, is a response to recent collective and personal darkness, grief, and therapy. It’s a journey of finding the light within the dark and reclaiming my queer history shaped by the silencing of Section 28. The drawings, referencing gay pornographic magazines from my teenage years that were kept hidden, bring my subjects out of the shadows, reframing histories once shaped by secrecy into quiet, tender, and resilient moments of visibility.
Private View: Wed 10 June from 6-8pm
