Technically gifted Brit artist Hush is one of the most exciting urban artists working today. Key themes are sexuality and pornography in Japanese culture. His reputation and popularity are huge, particularly in Asia, Europe and the US.
He originally trained as a graphic designer at Newcastle…Show more School of Art and Design. His work has since taken him around the world, and he's developed a fascination with international street art, tagging and graffiti.
Hush's work melds street art and traditional art practices. A prime concern is how women were represented in the past versus today. Hush takes traditional portrait and figurative imagery and mashes it with themes and aesthetics that seem, at first glance, incompatible. Through a process of layering, he investigates the beauty of decayed tagging and the possibility of creating something new.
Hush has been featured in the books Street Knowledge and The Street Art Stencil Book, and the Independent listed him as one of their 'Top 20 Up and Coming Artists'. In 2011 he opened an installation and exhibition space in Newcastle called onethirty3 which hosts six wall-based installations every year.Show less
"Hush is an artist we have collected at Rise Art for some time. His unique style, combining elements of Manga, Street Art and Fine Art, have won him admirers the world over. Collectible across all price points, his editions really stand out for their hand-embellished elements. This is an artist who I believe will continue to stand out in the years to come. "
