My studio was a borrowed warehouse and i spotted a bag of tile cement under some racking. I mixed some up with pva and slapped it over the painting. To my amazement, once sealed, it took oil paint really nicely and had the added charm of all the surface imperfections. Since then, I've explored other unconventional materials, like black varnish …and more recently, brown paper tape. My background is in graphics and I often use letterforms and numbers in paintings – these will often appear as the 'main characters' or as visual abstract links.
