Richard Thorn SWAc

Richard is a self-taught painter. Drawing was his primary introduction to art. Watercolour was a natural step from drawing and sketching. Growing up near to both coast, farmland and moorland, Richards' subject matter would incorporate these themes. His career began proper in his 30's and was taken up by galleries primarily in Devon. Exhibitions followed and his gallery base expanded. Latterly, Richards' work has been accepted on many occasions to the R.I. (for painters in watercolour) open exhibitions, winning 2 awards for best watercolour in 2017 & 2017. He was invited to China in 2019 partaking in the Qingdao International Watercolour exhibition - winning an award for painting excellence. Richard continues to paint nature and now works with various mediums including Acrylic, Watercolour inks, and Charcoal. These mediums, he says, ''allows me to experiment further with light texture and tertiary colour.
