Geoff Diego Litherland

Geoff Diego Litherland is a Mexican born artist who is now based in Derbyshire in the UK. His intriguing oil paintings are like nothing that have been seen before, blending a variety of different styles and influences ranging from Surrealism to elements of Abstraction. Within his work, which Geoff describes himself as ‘post-apocalyptic romanticism’, epic wildernesses straight out of a 19th-Century tableau are juxtaposed against space-age technology. In doing so, he aims to explore connections between our thoughts of nature in the past, present and future, and how this relates to the rapidly growing technology industry.

Geoff was born in Tehuacan, Mexico, but relocated to the UK where he had his artistic beginnings with a BA Fine Art at Falmouth University in 2002. Following this, he focused his attention on London, receiving an MA at Goldsmiths and going on to gain recognition throughout the capital’s art scene. He now works on his painting from his home in Derbyshire, while also lecturing at Nottingham Trent University.

Geoff’s surrealism has not gone unnoticed by the art world, and he has received numerous awards including the 2012 Saatchi Online Surreal Showdown and the prestigious Warden’s Purchase prize from Goldsmiths. You’ll find his conceptual paintings in collections across the globe, and he has taken part in many solo and group shows in the UK.
