Andy Gotts

Based in both London and New York, Andy Gotts MBE is one of the most prominent portrait photographers working today. For the past 30 years, Andy has been at the forefront of celebrity portrait photography and captured some of the world’s most famous faces. In 2012, Andy received an MBE for his services to photography and charity, and to this day remains one of the few photographers recognised by the Queen. Known for his black and white photographs of Hollywood’s most favoured actors and singers, Andy’s unique approach accesses moments of privacy to capture an unseen perspective.

Andy Gotts’ Career

Andy’s style is honest in both attitude and technique. The images are results of the settings Andy creates, which usually take the form of relaxed and conversational environments. Since the 1990’s Andy has worked with a host of clients, ranging from Vogue, to GQ, to everyone in between. Capturing high profile subjects such as George Clooney, Kate Moss and Robert De Niro, Andy uses an informal approach to instil his photographs with whit and warmth. The impact of Andy’s work has resulted in a Doctor of Arts from De Montfort University, the former role as President of the British Institute of Professional Photographers and of course, an MBE.

Exhibitions

The last ten years has seen Andy’s legacy solidified in British culture and the canon of photography. Prior to his MBE, a selection of Andy’s portrait photographs were added to The National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection. Andy is currently working on iCons for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, as well as UNSEEN, a project featuring 100 photographic contact sheets.
