Datamoshing, forced glitches, and celebrities in fragments: welcome to the world of Jack Addis. He's a young artist from Bristol who is breaking new digital ground with a series of glitchy prints and animations. Tate Britain projected his work in their main hall, and when his MA in Fine Digital Art…Show more is complete (2016), Addis is all set to create a pixel storm in the art world.
He uses photo manipulation and collage to break down data. The perfect images we're used to seeing in the media and online are broken down by his distinctive distorted style. There's a disturbing distance in Addis's portraits - the person in the picture struggles to connect with the viewer. These are portraits for a world where we're connected like never before, but our identities are in constant digital flux.
Welcome to the art of the error.Show less
"Jack Addis is certainly an artist to watch for the future. His work comments on the ever expanding nature of our global digital infrastructure. The imperfect images he creates contradict the perfection we are used to seeing in our world today. We are in some ways so connected to the world through the information we are continuously bombarded with whilst at the same time still so distant. "
