Description

Future Edit: 2020 graduate showcase.

Future Edit is a showcase of the best craft and design graduate talent from 2020.
Showcasing the work of our 44 selected makers, we will be introducing you to some of the next generation of makers who have been selected for their creative flair, thoughtful design and skilled execution.

Characterful knitted creatures, elegant twisted ‘rope’ gold jewellery, masks made using micro algae, chainmail screens, collapsible colourful vessels and accessories created from a new material made from kombucha drink waste – over 150 objects mean there is something that will appeal to everyone.

All the work for sale was made by graduates during the final stages of their MA and BA courses. Many items are one-off, handmade pieces whilst other display the tenacity of makers to implement experimental techniques against the challenging backdrop of 2020.

Future Edit is a Crafts Council team effort with our new gallery team leading on the showcase, our exhibitions team curating with Janice Blackburn (and handily re-purposing existing exhibitions builds!), our maker support team giving exhibitors expert business advice and our communications team spreading the word.

Why Future Edit? With all physical graduate degree shows cancelled and cultural venues changing their programmes to meet a new world – the Crafts Council did the same. We wanted to give graduates the chance to launch their work to industry, media and the public as they would normally do via their physical degree shows.
