The wide appeal of his style has earned him plenty of attention on Instagram.

In March 2017, KAWS launched one of his most lucrative collaborations yet, one with Nike Air Jordan. This shoe, however, was the crossroads between streetwear and Air Jordan culture. After closing his streetwear brand OriginalFake in 2013, KAWS set out on a new journey to reintegrate his name into street culture. KAWS AND HYPEBEAST CULTURE

In pop culture, the term "hypebeast" refers to someone who has their finger on the pulse of all things trending. Their main goal in acquiring and collecting art or luxury goods is not because it fits their personal taste, rather, it's to show their social status. KAWS has a cult of hypebeast followers who snap up his new releases at every single drop. These hypebeasts propel his work in an almost obsessive manner. For them, it's not about the figure itself but what the figure represents.

It can be difficult to get your hands on certain editions of KAWS collectibles, Companion figurines, Chum toys prints or sculptures. These limited edition series are usually on the primary market for a very short period of time before being completely sold out.
