It all started with a series of Braille drawings exhibited through My Life In Art. This kicked off a run of experiments by photographer/printmaker Johnny Christmas.
His latest? A photographic take on the spin painting. Christmas arranges coloured torches onto a turntable, and shoots them from…Show more above on a very slow exposure. The result is a disc of luminous light, reminiscent of a wheel or a dish. They're photographs, but with a very strong painterly effect. Christmas prints them in large format using the Diasec mounting technique, where a photo is printed onto glass acrylic resulting in brilliant colour and a high gloss finish.
We're also pleased to offer his bird giclee prints, each inspired by a different song title. At first, these appear to be simple bird illustrations, but upon examination you see that they are collaged from other paintings. They feel contemporary but are cut-and-pasted from the traditional. He lives and works in London.Show less
"I love this artist's sense of experimentation and colour. Also it's worth saying that birds have risen as a zeitgeist motif of late, but there's nothing like Johnny's beautifully crafted incarnations."
