Video Pick: Gerhard Richter: Panorama

This autumn, in conjunction with the artists 80th anniversary, the Tate Modern is hosting a major retrospective on the artist Gerhard Ricthter. The exibition spans over 5 decades of the artists work, and covers a nearly all of the artists practice. From the artists earliest realist paintings based on photographs, to his more subtle landscapes and history paintings, this show features something for nearly everyone. 

Born in 1932, the artist was exposed to the Nazi movement, which has colored the artists ideology and influenced his works in the subsequent years to follow. He was one of the first German artists to reflect on the impact of the Regime, creating photorealism paintings of family members who had beem members as well as victims of the Nazi party. The exhibit highlights many of the artists photorealism paintings, concluding with some of the artists later works including paintings reflecting on the World Trade Center bombings of 2001.
