  • Jo Baring

    The Insider Jo Baring says:

"Nick Malone was initially a writer, who left the academic world when he found that the written word proved insufficient to convey his intense visual world. He finds in his paintings a place where he can portray the unknowable. His visual vocabulary varies from recognisable landscapes and figures to more abstract images. Malone’s paintings are powerful investigations into humanity and creativity, multi-layered with both meaning and successive applications of paint. I enjoy coming back to them again and again."

  • The Kingdom III

‘The Kingdom' series is a story of exploration set in an imaginary rainforest. Like 'Jason Smith's Nocturnal Opera', the paintings involves interaction with writing through changing layers and glazes of ambiguity, but here, instead of pre-planned narrative, the series was advanced through correspondence between the pictures themselves, discoveries of elements in one painting prompting new developments in the next, with intent and chance co-existing through willed and unwilled areas of paint.
