    With the idea of being someplace else, a painting can be the transport. This work explores the perception of light as revealed through nuance of colour, composing a space between the natural and the ideal. An environment of diffused light is created that remains minimal and abstract.

    This painting is developed through numerous translucent layers. Pigment is suspended in beeswax, allowing light to permeate and become compositionally present.

    Janise Yntema

    Janise Yntema is an American painter based in Brussels who works primarily with the ancestral technique of beeswax, resin and pigments. Using heat as a solvent, the artist tackles the concept of time through this slow and gentle process. The fragility that such a technique captures perfectly echoes the themes that her work addresses. They contemplate the nuance of colour and the awareness of light, evoked by her unique colour palette. As such, Janise captures the delicate state of our natural environment, whilst reflecting on the most personal of memories.
