In her series ‘Animal extinction’ Irene gives species that are threatened by extinction a real voice. Based on the work of the Australian photojournalist Paul Hilton, Irene surrounds the animals by figures that tell the audience that they are running out of stock. She integrates colourful cheerful elements and materials into the paintings showing the beauty of the threatened species. One of the paintings was signed by nature warrior Leonardo di Caprio and sold in an auction. All the proceeds of the auction went to Australian Wild Life Asia.
