    The Insider Jo Baring says:

"Chris Shaw Hughes uses his impeccable draughtsmanship to create images which speak straight to the viewer. We are used to seeing photographs of people and places destroyed by human actions or nature. In fact, and we've become inured to it. But by drawing these images Chris makes them altogether more haunting and powerful. Drawing is a very personal medium - personal because of the time it takes for the artist create the images - and also a very traditional one. By using such a traditional method to create images of modern day trauma, Chris has produced stunning and thought provoking works of art. Beautiful."

He has a deft way with line that makes his work highly detailed, like a photograph (Aesthetica magazine called them "technical marvels"). He began using carbon paper to explore a 'negative' aesthetic and ideas of sensitivity to place and history.

In 2010, Shaw Hughes was selected for the ICA's Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition, making him part of a new wave of challenging contemporary artists. He's also shown at the Liverpool Bien…
