  • Cuando ya nada importe

    A mixed media work on wood about solitude. Most of the artist her work is inspired by the fragility of the human being but also by the strength people have to go on. In this piece she was inspired by the solitary people she sees in the streets.
    She likes to work on wood because she puts many layers of texture, and paint and canvas would just not be strong enough to support the many sanding and scrubbing in between the layers.

    Marleen Pauwels

    Marleen Pauwels was born in Dendermonde, Belgium in 1959.
    She studied drawing and painting at the “Constantin Meunier” Academy in Brussels, and etching at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Aalst and Dendermonde.
    In 2001, she settled in Spain where she continues her artwork today.
    Over the years her style has evolved using various media including etching, drawing, collage and oil paint. Currently, she has created my own distinctive form of expression with the use of mixed media on panel.
