Indian printmaker Chitra Merchant is one of Bristol's emerging print talents, based out of Spike Print Studios. She uses ancient Indian historical sites as a starting point to develop imagined structures. Her silhouettes of architecture and the landscape are often picked out in highly detailed patterns. Merchant's work has been shown at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, Brook Gallery, Smithson Gallery and Fig, a small Bristol gallery run by a collective of six which includes Merchant.
She often works with screenprint for its limitless possibilities of layering colours, tones and lines.
