Born in Surrey in 1984, Laura Jordan is an acclaimed mixed media illustrator, known for her intricate and sprawling cityscapes. Laura’s style is impressive in both intricacy and scale. Working in small sections and building up scene upon scene, Laura forms each piece by gradually bringing together various pockets of detail. A trained editorial illustrator, Laura adds immense precision and personality to every piece of art she creates. Each work is characterised by bursts of colour and… individual narratives that come together to embody the feel of the city.
Laura Jordan’s Education and Career
Laura’s fascination with urban skylines was ignited when she moved to London in 2004 to study a BA in Graphic Design and Editorial Illustration at London College of Communications. Since graduating in 2007, Laura has shown her art in shows globally. With art that covers the world, that takes on scenes of Paris, New York and Tokyo and injects it with narrative and social commentary, Laura’s work has built up an international reputation.
Throughout her career, Laura has travelled the world and captured city scenes through photography. In any given city, Laura will take anywhere between 500 to 2000 photographs, whilst studying the way people exist and interact within the environment. Furthermore, Laura will examine the behaviour of the city, taking into account cultural, social and economical identities. Back in the studio, Laura creates lots of small illustrations from her photographs and knits them together through collage to form her impression of the metropolis. Laura’s thorough research, paired with her eye for detail makes for observant reflections of the world we live in.
