Léonard Tsugouharu Foujita (Franco-Japanese, 1886-1968) was a painter and engraver, born in Edugawa, Tokyo. He received his training at the Imperial School of Fine Arts and quickly became successful, with orders from the Emperors of Korea and Japan. In 1913, he went to Paris and immediately became friends with many painters of Premier of the time, including Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Henri Matisse, Henri Rousseau and Chaim Soutine. He established a particularly narrow friendship with the famous Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.connu for his eccentric personality, Foujita forged a colorful reputation thanks to his haircut, his earrings and his glasses. But beyond the public image, Foujita took her work very seriously, displaying a predilection for white and pale tones like lavender and gray. Foujita was on the border between Japanese art and European art and was constantly inspired by women and cats.
