      Hannah Thomas

Born in 1973 in Berkshire, UK, Hannah Thomas is an abstract painter currently based in Wiltshire. Although Hannah primarily works with acrylics, her style is constantly evolving. The artist plays with simple abstraction, surrealism, and figurative elements. Her ongoing themes of the absurd, the romantic and the chaotic have developed into a more personal statement, confronting the processes of ageing, conflicting desires, and the pressures of time. She hopes to explore these using her own visual language, acknowledging influences as varied as Francis Bacon, Art Nouveau, David Lynch, and Romanticism.

      Hannah Thomas’s Early Career

Hannah attended the University of the West of England in Bristol, graduating with a BA Hons in Art and Visual Culture in 2000. Following this, she spent ten years working as a photographer, primarily within the music sector, in East London. In 2017, Hannah took a step back from photography and chose to pick up her paintbrush. Eager to find a form of artistic expression that allows for greater creative autonomy, she moved towards more visceral and cathartic artistic projects. Her current abstract paintings present spiralling motifs and evocative shapes, conjuring an emotional and highly personal topography.

      Awards and Exhibitions

She has been selected for several online exhibitions over the past eighteen months, including a solo exhibition with Albe Art Gallery. She was also a finalist in the London International Creative Competition, the Emerging Artist Award with Creates Gallery, and shortlisted for last year’s Visual Art Open Competition. Hannah also took part in the group show, Emerge - See|Me: New York, (Finalist Exhibition) at Gallery New York, NYC, April 2022, and her solo show, Rebel Visions, at the Green Rooms Hotel, London, 2019.
