Anna Suwalowska

Anna is a figurative artist based in London. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art (2013) and the Camberwell College of Art (2011). Anna has recently joined a community of artists at the Essential School of Painting in London. Her paintings explore the relationships between people weaving multiple narratives of the psychological landscape. The body is central to her practice. It embodies the universal language of emotions that express human nature – unstable and in constant flux. A recurrent motif in her work is ‘the gaze’ in a figurative and philosophical sense. Using expressive language her work connects her personal myth with core concerns of human existence, archetypes and mythology.Anna was awarded art residencies in Taiwan and Norway: Arthouse Messen, Norway (2014); Gold Museum in New Taipei (2015); Soulangh Artist Village in Tainan (2015) and Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei (2015). She has exhibited in the UK and internationally. Her most recent solo, ‘Beyond the body: a portrait of autopsy’, has been included in the prestigious institutional exhibitions at the University of Oxford (2020) and the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (2021).She exhibited at the Mall Galleries and Korean Cultural Centre in London. Her work is held in the Fryderyk Chopin Museum collection in Warsaw.
Anna was awarded the Sheila Robinson Memorial Prize for the most outstanding use of drawing (2013) and the 1st prize for J.N Wood Natural Forms Drawing Award.
