Susan Phillips

Born in Bedford in 1978, Susan Phillips is a UK-based artist working with beautifully understated ceramic sculptures. Susan’s work can be described as abstract sculpture, depicting simple shapes that intersect with one another in a study of line and form. She likes to draw attention to the empty space in sculptures, exploring not only what is present, but also what is absent. Her work expresses ideas of potential and possibility through a minimalistic visual language, and is sure to appeal to art collectors who like a clean, modern aesthetic.

Susan Phillips’ Artistic Career

Susan travelled down to the artist colony of Falmouth in Cornwall to study her BA in Ceramics, before moving to rural Herefordshire where she has since been creating art. She states architecture as a key influence in her art, and has recently been awarded a research grant to visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada.

Exhibitions, Collections and Awards

Susan’s abstract art has been featured in numerous exhibitions across the UK and internationally, most recently at the Korean International Ceramics Biennale in 2019. You’ll also find her work in permanent collections such as the Embassy of Brazil in London. In addition, she has won several awards, including the International VIA Art Prize in 2017 and the gold medal for craft and design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2014.
