Whilst studying at Edinburgh Napier University, I aspired to push the boundaries of photography, art and craft and in doing so my photographs are often mistaken for paintings or drawings.
Fascinated with the skill of paper artists such as Su Blackwell and Peter Calleson, I decided to combine craft object and photography in a way that veered from the usual photographic documentation of objects. By creating or appropriating objects they become a reference for understanding the overall meaning within my images and the final product of the framed photograph can become a craft object in itself.
In my work, image and text are integrated; text becomes a part of the craft object or photographs allowing a deeper communication to the audience whilst underlining the origins and notions of writing, ideas and stories.
