In recent years Stephen Whatcott's work has shifted from figurative drawing to abstract painting. With his figurative work, he illustrated people in everyday life situations that had been examined, filtered, dissected and reassembled, often like a collage, with the intention of capturing the mood of the situation, or the feelings that the people were experiencing.
His non-figurative paintings strive to express emotions but with the added…Show more freedom from representation, enabling direct emotional contact with the viewer.
The work Whatcott produces focuses on human nature and the notion of what it is to be human. The work is emotionally driven. Just to feel something that another human being is experiencing is the most important thing.Show less
