Exploring the balance of chance and control in the painting process, Parr creates an atmosphere which draws on both the landscape of her childhood and her journey since.
Her photography records marks on walls and other surfaces as her way of “painting” with her camera whilst traveling and this…Show more has led to a developing symbiosis between her photography and painting
Her intent is for her work to be an emotive and moody stage, heavily influenced by her career as a Production Set Designer for Television and a childhood spent with a mother who was an undiagnosed hoarder. Understandably, she is now driven to create a sense of chimerical and ambiguous space mapping the fine line between abstraction, form and scenic recognition.
Her work is held in the collections of Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston Children's Museum USA, Senior Economist at Goldman Sachs International London and many other private collections worldwide.Show less
"I am a huge fan of Gina Parr’s work. Although the paintings are fundamentally abstract, there are clear references to landscapes. Her technique is particularly interesting through the sense of tension she creates in the work where the boundaries of chance and control meet on the canvas resulting in these wonderfully atmospheric works.
