Often my ideas begin from my own personal narratives, taking something seemingly everyday and injecting more meaning into it, the 'poetry' of life. Alchemy as an idea interests me because I like the way people manage to transform themselves in seemingly insignificant ways, yet these have lasting effect on their lives. Currently, I am working on an arts project which involves looking at the way different 'uniforms' (and the stories or cultural histories associated with these uniforms) may have a transformative effect on the person wearing them, and also on the way others feel or may respond towards them. I am focusing on matadors at present, and extending this theme to a more symbolic understanding of the polarities inherent in the human condition (man versus animal, control versus instinct, as well as the use of costumes/masks in performance and how we direct the life force).
