It's degree show season, and at Rise Art we're loving every minute of it. Our curatorial team have been dashing all over London to some of the best art schools, and scouting out the end of year exhibitions for the newest talent – watch this space. All this excitement had us looking back at some of our most recent graduates, taking a sneak-peek at what they've been up to since. For a glimpse of some of the ones we think are worth taking notice of, check out our article on the 10 Graduates to Watch!

Out & About With Rise Art

Degree Show Season Round Up

Our Artist Champion Natalia has had a pretty busy few weeks, heading up all of the best London art schools on the hunt for brand new emerging talent. We pounced on her in the office this week, quizzing her about the highlights of the season so far, and she gave us a sneak-peek at some of the best pieces she found!

The Slade MA/MFA/PhD show

"Hands down the most innovative approach to painting. The absolute highlight of the show had to be Sara Berman. Her latest works talk about the most intimate spaces occupied by a female body - it's about the negative space inside a woman's clothes and the body underneath."

Central Saint Martin's Show ONE

"The future of conceptual art! Fur art... I kid you not! Highlight: Bobby Monteverde. I liked his fresh take on the age-old issue of gender - with a really cool use of completely insane materials, like hormone replacement therapy drugs."

Wimbledon

"This show had an interesting mix of everything. Unlike other schools, I didn't get an overall sense of what Wimbledon is all about, but each individual voice was incredibly interesting. The highlight: James Reynolds. His floating figures combines with incredible draftsmanship create an eerie feeling of isolation (perfect fit for the post-Brexit mood)."

Art World Happenings

We don't know about you, but we've been waiting (impatiently) for the new David Hockney exhibition to open for a while! His last major show was named the most successful exhibition in UK history, so this is definitely something to get excited about. It opens this Sunday and runs until October so go and soak up some weekend culture this Summer at the Royal Academy. We're lucky enough to house a few limitied edition Hockney prints on Rise Art... Take a look!

Trace: Urtica Dioica and Citadel

Simon Job

Simon Job uses intriguingly varied methods to create each of his artworks. From spray paint on canvas, to graphite on sheet. His minimal, elegant works are both textural and atmospheric. They are fragile impressions of the world as seen through an artist's eyes, and would make a beautiful addition to any space.
