Artist Of The Week: Jane Boyer

Jane Boyer uses unconventional mediums for her paintings full of hidden depth and charm.

By Rise Art | 30 Aug 2012

Jane Boyer is an abstract painter who uses very little paint in her paintings, preferring the contrast of powder and liquid in the creation of her paintings; employing powdered graphite as one of her favourite mediums. Through the layering and interaction of these contrasting textures Boyer finds a way to create a sense of non-illusional depth in her work.

Boyer’s sense of composition has been developed by her early background as a fine art photographer. Her photographs are close-ups of objects that appear at first to be paintings, but reveal themselves later as delicate studies in texture and framing. Her paintings are directly informed by these eariler works.
